Rinaldi with us in 2016.\u00a0This year Larry shared some additional stories after talking with his Uncle Jim who turned 97 years old in December.\u00a0There are stories about the actual date of his birth and the recorded date of birth, the misspelling of his name on the birth certificate by the American doctor and how Nicola Vincenzo became Jimmy and eventually James N. But in 1936 both men\u2019s grandchildren met at New Utrecht High School in Brooklyn, NY and married in 1939. They were Larry\u2019s parents! But a second coincidence occurred when the vintage photograph of Mott street was published in the August Newsletter showing Raffaele Venezia\u2019s store.\u00a0Larry\u2019s paternal aunt, Tessie Rossini Baglino, tells him that she remembers Raffaele and that he instilled his pride in this country to his family.\u00a0Hence the emphasis on English and the American flag that show in the store pictures.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>lo zio jimmy ed il negozio di caramelle<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>L\u2019anno scorso il membro societario Larry Rossini ha voluto condividere con noi la storia di suo zio, James N. Rinaldi. Quest\u2019anno Larry ci ha deliziato con spunti ulteriori del suo racconto, dopo aver parlato con suo zio, il quale ha appena compiuto 97 anni lo scorso dicembre.<\/p>\n<p>Ci sono diverse leggende circa la vera data di nascita dello zio e quella invece ufficialmente registrata, sugli errori di trascrizione del suo nome sul suo documento di nascita da parte del dottore americano e su come Nicola Vincenzo si tramut\u00f2 in Jimmy e poi James N. Rinaldi. Larry ci raccont\u00f2: \u201czio Jim da bambino veniva sempre chiamato \u201cSonny\u201d e non sapeva di aver un vero nome fino al momento della sua registrazione a scuola, quando sua madre appunt\u00f2 lo indic\u00f2 come James. Lui disse che la tradizione famigliare era quella di chiamare il figlio piu\u2019 anziano \u201cSonny\u201d e la prima figlia \u201cDolly\u201d. Larry ha condiviso con noi anche una storia ricca di coincidenze interessanti. Il suo bisnonno materno, Nicola Rinaldi, arriv\u00f2 per la prima volta negli Stati Uniti nel 1899, portando con s\u00e8 il figlio Francesco, al tempo quattordicenne. I due andarono a vivere con il primo figlio di Nicola, Vincenzo, il quale viveva su 44 Baxter Street. Il padre dei due dovette tornare in Italia, rimanendoci fino al 1907, anno in cui fece ritorno con altri due figli, Matteo (il nonno di Larry) e Leonardo.<\/p>\n<p>Il fatto volle che sulla nave con cui Nicola Rinaldi effettu\u00f2 la prima traversata oceanica, l\u201911 ottobre 1899, ci fosse anche Raffaele Venezia con la sua famiglia, proveniente da Atripoldi nei pressi d\u2019Avellino, che con tutta probabilit\u00e0 non conosceva Matteo. Ma nel 1936 entrambi il nipote di Nicola e la nipote di Raffaele si incontrarono presso la scuola New Utrecht High School a Brooklyn, NY, innamorandosi e sposandosi poi nel 1939. Erano loro i genitori di Larry!<\/p>\n<p>Ma una seconda coincidenza \u00e8 avvenuta con la pubblicazione di una fotografia d\u2019epoca di Mott Street sull\u2019aggiornamento mensile d\u2019Agosto, la quale raffigura la bottega di un tempo di Raffaele Venezia. La zia paterna di Larry, Tessie Rossini Baglino, gli disse di aver conosciuto Raffaele e di ricordarsi di lui come un uomo che aveva inculcato alla sua famiglia l\u2019orgoglio di essere parte del nuovo paese che li aveva ospitati. Questo \u00e8 uno dei motivi che giustificano tanta enfasi da parte di Raffaele nel voler mostrare la bandiera inglese e americana nel suo negozio, ripreso in foto.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Society member Larry Rossini shared the story of his uncle, James N.
